Uganda- South Sudan Cohort
Training Leaders International is supporting the training of leaders for the church in Northern Uganda, Congo, and South Sudan in a partnership with five churches from Western Wisconsin that make up the St Croix Valley Lead Team (SCVLT). About ten years ago a missionary sent from one of the SCVLT made the team aware of the need for the planting of churches in Northern Uganda as people were resettling after the devastation brought about by Joseph Coney and the Lord's Resistance Army. The SCVLT developed a plan to train leaders for Jesus’ Church in Northern Uganda, and sought out TLI to gain cultural training and curriculum support. The trainers for the work in Northern Uganda are sent by the SCVLT along with one representative from TLI. Prior to the launch of a second cohort the SCVLT discovered a wonderful local partner in Four Corners Ministry who shares a vision for training church leaders and a reproducing movement. During the second cohort gifted local leaders were trained to serve as future trainers.
In March of 2023 two new cohorts were launched in the recently constructed Pastor Training Center on the ministry campus of Abaana’s Hope, run by Four Corners Ministry (FCM). One cohort is made up of church leaders from Uganda and is led by the African trainers who were part of cohort two. The intention was to turn the work over to the FCM team and the Ugandan trainers. In the process of interviewing potential trainees the FCM team saw God raise up a cohort from Northern Uganda, but also trainees stretching into South Sudan and The Congo. The Four Corners team asked the SCVLT and TLI to continue involvement in guiding this South Sudanese cohort and once again train more African trainers. This cohort launched the week prior to the new Ugandan cohort.
Since the SCVLT provides the trainers and shares the financial expenses with FCM there is no need to recruit trainers for this site. The team would welcome the opportunity to share what God has done in Northern Uganda with other church networks.
